Zimbabwe Investor Insight

Zimbabwe’s mining sector is one of the most diversified in Southern Africa, producing precious metals, base metals, and battery minerals rather than relying on a single commodity. This diversification significantly reduces sector risk for investors.

Lithium (Li)

Zimbabwe hosts some of Africa’s largest hard-rock lithium deposits, holds ~1–2% of the world’s known lithium reserves

Gold (Au)

Zimbabwe holds <1% of global gold reserves, but ranks among Africa’s established gold producers.

Chrome / Chromium (Cr)

Zimbabwe holds ~10–15% of the world’s chromite reserves, ranking among the top global holders.

Copper (Cu)

Copper occurs in the Magondi Belt, Zambezi Valley, and Mashonaland West, often associated with nickel and other base metals.

Coal (C)

Coal is concentrated in Hwange, Sengwa, and Lupane, with reserves estimated in the billions of tonnes, including thermal and coking coal.

Platinum Group Metals

Zimbabwe holds ~7–8% of global platinum group metal (PGMs – Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru, Os) reserves, ranking second globally after South Africa.
